Temporal 2018

Brenda Hopkins Miranda: piano
Manuel Martínez: drums
David de León: bass
Andrés “Kino” Cruz: percussion

This is a spontaneous improvisation recording inspired by the melody of the song Temporal, which means storm. This is a traditional song announcing a storm is coming. Ironically, even though the song is about a horrible event, it’s melody seems to have a happy quality to it. This version was recorded at Pasillo Sonoro Studios in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2018 after category 5 Hurricane Maria hit the island and caused thousands of deaths and destruction.

Lyrics

“Temporal, temporal, allá viene el temporal. ¿Qué será de mi Borinquen cuando llegue el temporal?”

“The storm, the storm, the storm is coming. What will happen to Puerto Rico when the storm arrives?”

7 Mile Road

Brenda Hopkins Miranda: Composer, pianist
Peter Row: guitar

20 years ago, on April 14, 1999 my beloved mentor, Peter Row and I recorded my composition “7 Mile Road” at the New England Conservatory Studio. This is the first recording I ever did of this song. Making music with Peter was one of the most effortless and natural experiences I’ve ever had. Today I want to share this intimate recording with you to celebrate his life, his memory and his talent.
